Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
1. Why do you recommend renting over buying an instrument right away?
- We recommend renting for a few reasons:
- For Orchestra/Strings (violin, viola, cello and bass), you can get the size instrument you need and can exchange sizes free of charge! This way, you wont have to buy 3-4 different instruments as your child is growing. Big money saver!
- You will own the instrument at the full size by high school (in most cases- the lower price of rental, the longer it takes to own)
- This saves your time and effort with easy steps and customer service guidance instead of doing the research on your own!
- If anything happens to the instrument, you will be covered with instrument insurance (which is included in the price for both companies!)
- David French's Wixon representative, Steve Testa, and Music and Art's representative, John Mitchell, come to Wixon once a week for drop-off/pick-up service. This way, you do not have to drive to a store location for any instrument needs!
2. What else do I need to know?
- We have made our recommendations based on our research with multiple rental companies.
- We encourage you to reach out to us with any questions! We we are here to help!
- If you already have an instrument in your possession, please contact Mrs. Noble or Mrs. Capparella (depending on your instrument) so we can check out the instrument and approve it for use. If we find this instrument needs repair, we can send it to David French for an estimate on your behalf and they will be in contact with you.
- There are school instruments available in limited supply and are considered a scholarship for Wixon students. This scholarship is open to families that find the cost of renting out of reach at this time. If you believe that you are eligible for this scholarship, please email Mrs. Noble (Orchestra) or Mrs. Capparella (Band) by September 1st of 2021 to inquire about an instrument and it's availability.
3. What if I am a current student and renting from another rental company?
- That is great! Keep renting from the rental company you are already set up with!
- Note: You can switch; However, if you switch companies, your rent-to-own program would likely start over, so we don't recommend switching companies once you have signed up with one.
- Please email or call/text one of us below for Wixon if you have questions, or if you are at Mattacheese, contact Kerry Cutler for Orchestra at cutlerk@dy-regional.k12.ma.us, and contact Scott Graf for Band at grafs@dy-regional.k12.ma.us.
